From the airplane descending toward the airport of Lamentin, near Fort-de-France, on the Caribbean island of Martinique, we had our first glimpses of the tropical landscape underneath. This image shows the little island named 'îlet Ramier, of volcanic origin, lying just offshore the southwestern coast of Martinique near the village of Les-trois-îlets. The tiny island bears spectacular fortifications from the period when the Lesser Antilles were subject to military conflicts between the colonial powers of France and England.
