Rockets are launched, the skies light up, mortars explode, the ground shakes, the air fills with gunpowder and I'm not talking about the Battle of Saipan in WWII. This happens every New Years Eve in Saipan with a show that must dwarf all small towns in the States. This is not a local government event. Every forth house or so, in every neighborhood across the island, there is an arsenal of fireworks. I built a large bench on our roof a few years ago and my family and I sit there to watch the battle unfold. See more:
