Vila NoVa dA CerveiRa
Border village, Vila Nova de Cerveira has developed over the centuries contiguous to its defensive walls, that protected it from the Spanish attacks, situated in a region of astonishing natural beauty.
This territory has been occupied since pre-historical times, and several archaeological vestiges of human occupation through centuries can be found throughout the region.
Vila Nova de Cerveira is an historical village, mostly rural, but with some small industries that have been developed lately. The village is also quite famous for its prestige Art Biennial, since 1978, attracting many visitors and reputable national and international artists.
Vila Nova de Cerveira’s many Manor houses denote the economical importance over the year, enriching the beauty of the village, that has already an idyllic natural ambiance, in between luxuriant mountain ranges and various delightful water courses.
In the village’s Castle functions nowadays a luxury hotel (“Pousada de D. Dinis”), and the village’s Mother Church and Misericórdia Chapel are also worth to be known. Curious, up in the hill, is an iron sculpture of a Deer (“Cervo” in Portuguese), the typical animal of this territory that was indeed named after the mammal (“Cerveira” was the land of the “Cervo”).
The Gastronomy of the region is quite influenced by the richness of the River Minho, that also provides astonishing landscapes and pure moments of relaxation and leisure. The Restaurant offer is quite good, with traditional recipes with lampreys and mullets.

A great spot for divers, honeymooners, kiters and Kapers ( always windy).
A japanese honeymooner couple was very curious about our kite aerial photography and handed me a memory SD card asking me if I could put it in my camera, of course I did, tied the line and gave them the radio control so they could shoot the hotel themselves. They were so happy to watch the results !

Etna, 8 March 2009
For a long time there hasn't been much to be said about this eruption that began so powerfully nearly ten months ago and then dwindled so much as to nearly fall into oblivion. But there it is, with a new branch of lava that spilled down late on 7 March 2009, taking a new course much farther north (right), around the impressive shield of lava that had accumulated on Etna's upper east flank in recent months. The shield is well visible for the dark tentacles of lava, still too hot for the snow to remain. A small incandescent spot marks the vent from which the new lava flow is issuing. By nightfall on 8 March, the first surge of lava of the previous night had stopped and cooled, but a new lobe of lava was making its way downslope parallel to it. Much higher up on the slope, just above the small incandescent spot, white vapor and small quantities of dark gray ash are issuing from a vent on the original eruptive fissure, where no explosive activity has been seen since late July 2008. When I took this photo from Monte Fontane, much lower down on the east side of Etna, roaring noises could be distinctly heard - the first noises this eruption is making since last summer. Now the question is, will this eruption once more gain vigor and continue for yet a few more months, or is this the sign of the imminent end: a number of eruptions of Etna in the past have ended with a final, brief upsurge. In a few days we will know ...

No I do not work for the National Geographic....
Nor the Conde Naste Traveler. Nor the surfing O’Neill’s.
Nor do I hang around, loitering the sets of Playboy.
It's a hard choice not to.
Besides the money, fame and the perks those big guys throw around,
it's as much a wish as a need, for any aspiring photographer.
What I despise, though, is the attitude.
The bigger the name, the worse it becomes.
Maldives is small. It's impossible not cross each others paths.
Especially when those paths are queued with egos, sneers and
trucks.
Trucks of photo equipment the big-namers carry around, to, perhaps exaggerate the bigness of the game.
Oh!
Photography has become a game?
I thought it was all about moments, creativity and hard work.
I have seen Smarties being exchanged for smiles.
I have seen photographers bargaining with the power of greenbacks($$$).
I have seen magic. The special disappearing act performed by many hasty pros, (without even a thank) in search for the next, award-winning shot.
I am just being jealous. I know.
I am cheap.
I never, ever, offer anything in return for my photos.
Except love.
My people love me, just as I love them.
I also know that I belong. In Maldives, it’s difficult to navigate
the terrain, nor, dodge the beaurocracy that arises in the rush of the moment.
Talking of trucks of photo equipment,
I wish I could land up a decent job, so I can ditch this throw-away pocket camera and invest in a DSLR.
